Amigurumi keychains use little yarn and work up quickly, but they get more wear than a toy on a shelf. A few choices keep them neat.
Choose a smooth yarn
Cotton or a cotton blend in DK weight resists fuzz and shows stitches clearly. Use a hook small enough that no gaps appear when the piece is stuffed. Stuffing should not show between stitches.
Stuff firmly
A keychain takes knocks, and soft stuffing shifts. Add small pieces at a time and shape the piece as you close it.
Attach the ring securely
Do not sew the ring only to the surface. Take a doubled length of strong yarn through the top of the piece, knot it inside and tie it to the keyring. Pull the knot back inside so it does not show.
Keep the details stitched
Embroidered eyes hold up better than glued parts. Keep keychains away from young children, since rings and small parts are not safe for them.
Start with a mini chick, a mini bear or a mini strawberry in your own colours.
