How to slip stitch in crochet

A slip stitch adds almost no height. It is used to join rounds and to move yarn without adding bulk.

Steps

  1. Insert your hook into the stitch.

  2. Wrap the yarn over the hook.

  3. Pull the yarn through the stitch and the loop on your hook in one move.

Where you will use it

Use it to close a round, to attach parts and to finish neatly. Keep it loose, as tight slip stitches are hard to work into.

Common mistakes

Pulling too tight leaves a hard ridge. Relax your hand and keep the top of the stitch open.
