Seed stitch has a bumpy texture and lies flat. It is reversible, so it suits scarves and edges. UK patterns often call it moss stitch.
How it works
Cast on an odd number of stitches.
- Every row: Knit 1, purl 1, repeating to the last stitch, then knit 1.
Tip
Move the yarn between the needles after every stitch. You should knit into the bumps and purl into the Vs.
Common mistakes
Forgetting to move the yarn adds extra loops and spoils the texture. If you see ribs forming, one row started on the wrong stitch.
When to use it
It makes a good flat border for stockinette and suits scarves and cloths.
